Havering Folk Club meets at The Golden Lion, 2 High St., Romford, RM1 1HR. Romford's most historic building, having once belonged to Sir Francis Bacon, who many believe wrote the Shakespeare plays. It has an attractive, beamed room with excellent acoustics in which we meet, serves a choice of well-kept real ales and also serves meals until 9pm. There is ample safe, free parking in the High Street, or at the rear of the pub in the road leading to the roundabout.

Our guest artists for July 8th were the very popular Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer. Between them they sing, play guitar, accordian, Scottish Smallpipes and the Swedish Nyckelharpa. They have recently launched their new CD Gleowein and you can watch a clip from their launch session below

Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer

August 5th saw a featured evening for two of our newer members, Bert Dady and Keith Petty.  We were treated to a mixture of Irish music, comedy plus other traditional music.

Bert Dady & Keith Petty

Al Neville is well known to Havering Folk Club as one of our finest  solo singer/songwriters. On September 2nd however, he appears for a member's featured evening in his other guise, with the six-piece Blue Grass band The Spangles Gang. They've not played for us before so certainly something to look forward to.

Al Neville who'll be appearing with The Spangles Gang

Saturday September 26th sees our first "Club in the Pub" gig. Originally conceived as an evening's entertainment in the main bar of the Golden Lion, it's now going ahead in our usual clubroom (we couldn't think up another name in time!) and will be a free session The artists performing will be Triangle, three very popular ladies at Havering, who perform unaccompanied harmony and will be launching their new CD, Time Out of Mind, plus Kiss the Mistress, two guys and a gal who have their own unique style and I believe, will also have a CD.

Sophy Watson, Mim McMahon & Sue Manley - Triangle

Kiss the Mistress

Another Member's Featured Evening is on Wednesday 7th October. This time it's Smolowik, an artist who just keeps on getting better and better. Come and see for yourself.

Smolowik

Maggie Sand and Sandragon are our November 4th guests. While anyone who loves good music should come along to this, it's the lovers of Medeival and Renaissance who really shouldn't miss this one. Maggie and the gang will also have their new CD to launch.

"I travel the country a great deal and always look on the web to find a folk club or music session close to my hotel. So I have visited dozens during the past few years and without doubt the friendliest is Havering FC. I knew 5 people by name before I sat down with my pint. Excellent night - keep up the good work!"  Mike Lydiatt - Sheffield

"I must say, I was incredibly impressed with the breadth of music you guys delivered.  If anyone was looking for a definition of "eclectic", I think I would have to point them to a club which can cover everything from George Formby to Ralph Vaughan Williams in the space of two and a half hours! Ah, that would be Havering Folk Club, then!
Thanks very much for having us, and we look forward to coming again soon." Sue, Mim & Sophie aka
Triangle

"Just been watching your YouTube Clips .. Great.
One day I will get there ... because, from what I hear and see, yours is probably the best club for folk in Essex. "
